Brook Codes Hackathon is a 2 day hackathon for middle and high school students in MCPS (Montgomery County Public Schools, Maryland). Students of any coding background are welcome, from beginner to advanced!

They will be challenged to make a creative project in response to a prompt or challenge provided by organizers, working in groups of up to 4 members.

Beginner: Themed Program - Create a game, website, or other program that is themed around something you are passionate about.

Advanced: Integration of Technologies - Create a program that integrates two or more technologies in creative or interesting ways. This could be anything from data from various APIs, to discord bots, to the Lights in your bedroom.

FAQs

/FAQs

  • Do I need to know how to code?
You don’t need ANY coding experience to participate! If you do, that’s great! If you don’t, that’s also great! Students of all skill levels are encouraged to attend, even if you’ve never written a line of code. We’re very beginner friendly and are prepared to teach you everything you need to learn right here.
  • When & where is Brook Codes?
Brook Codes is hosted by Springbrook High School and will be held VIRTUALLY, from October 26th-27th, 2024. You do not need to be online the entire duration; just for the opening and closing ceremonies.
  • Who can attend?
MCPS high school and middle-school students that are 18 and below may register for the event. Additionally, all participants must follow the Brook Codes code of conduct.
  • How do teams work?
You can work on a project on your own, or you can work with a team. Teams can be formed prior to the hackathon with other participants, or at the team formation event before official hacking begins. Team size cannot exceed four members.
  • What if I don't have a partner?
If you don't have a partner don't worry! On the discord, there will be a channel where you can share your grade and find teammates!! It will be a great way to meet new people! However, if you don't wish to work in a team, you can work by yourself!
  • What if I need any special accommodations?
If you have any special needs you feel our organizers should be aware of, please email brookcodes@gmail.com. We will try our best to accommodate you and your needs!
  • What is a hackathon?
A hackathon is a technology-focused event where individuals and teams work on new projects in a short period of time. You can build anything you want, based on the challenges. An app, a robot, a website. The only limit is your imagination!
